1. Wear resistance
The wear resistance of the material is one of the most basic and important properties of the die. Hardness is the main factor affecting wear resistance. In addition, the wear resistance is also related to the type, quantity, shape, size and distribution of carbide in the material.
2. Strength and toughness
In the long-term process of cyclic stress, the mould needs to bear a large impact load for many times, which may easily lead to fracture. Therefore, in order to prevent the mold parts in the work of sudden fracture, the mold should have higher strength and toughness. The toughness of the mold mainly depends on the carbon content, grain size, microstructure and inclusion content and strength of the material.
3. Corrosion resistance
Some moulds, such as plastic moulds, work because of the presence of chlorine, fluorine and other elements in the plastic, HCI, HF and other strong corrosive gases will be decomposed and precipitated after being heated, which will erode the surface of mold cavity, increase the surface roughness and aggravate wear and failure.
4. High temperature performance
When the working temperature of the mold increases, the hardness and strength will decrease, resulting in early die wear or plastic deformation and failure. Therefore, the die material should have high tempering stability to ensure that the die has high hardness and strength at working temperature.
5. Thermal and cold fatigue resistance
Some molds will be in the state of repeated heating and cooling in the working process, so the cavity surface is easy to cause surface cracking and peeling, which increases the friction, hinders the plastic deformation, reduces the dimensional accuracy, and finally leads to mold failure. Cold and heat fatigue is one of the main failure modes of hot working dies.
